DMG Audio OR Waves Update Plan ?

From sales to sales, I bought many Waves plugins like SSL , V-series, API bundles etc... that I use in each of my tunes.

But I read that if one day my computer crashes or Apple makes a major update , I shall need to pay the Waves WUP to continue to use all their stuff.

For the same price, I ask myself to switch to DMG Equilibrium and Compassion , which has a behavior that permits to get the same kind of behavior as SSL, V and API ....

Maybe the quality is different but for the future, it offers more piece of mind ... ? My question is a kind of "insurance" on the future ? Maybe quality of plugs plays also a role.

Realistic 13" Macbook Air Expectations?

Hi all,



My early 2011 Macbook Pro is on its way out and I've been considering where to go next.



I live in the Czech Republic, and Macs are insanely expensive here, so I've been considering getting the 13" Macbook Air with the i7 1,7ghz dual core processor, 128gb SSD (use an external HD for samples, recording to/storing projects on etc.) w/ 8GB of RAM, just to save some money and keep within my budget.

The other option would be to save up a extra 350 bucks and the 13" retina Macbook Pro w/ a 2.6ghz i5 w/ 8gb of ram 250gb SSD.



I believe both would be an upgrade from my current machine, which is a 2.3ghz i5 running 4gb of ram and 300 GB HDD.



Music production is just a hobby for me, but one I quite enjoy and take seriously but in the end just a hobby.



I am wondering if anyone is using the 13" i7 Macbook Air as their main hobby music production machine? And what are realistic expectations for what you can get out of it?



I work only in Ableton live, my projects run usually about 18-20 tracks long, mainly midi tracks running plugins from Native Instruments (Absynth, FM8, Massive, Reaktor Player) with the occasional audio track, and a couple drum machine tracks. I use Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 as my interface.



Is it realistic to expect that the 13" i7 Macbook Air w/ 8gb of RAM, and 128gb SSD would hold up for projects of that size?



Anyway, thanks a lot for your time and feedback, would be interested to hear from anyone on their opinion or if someone is actually using Ableton in their Macbook Air w/ third party plugins.

I came across this recently.. I have a Apogee Rosetta 800 clocked to my Prism Orpheus, I was considering a mod for the Rosetta to get the conversion to be as best as possible

USB to MIDI Host options

Hi thanks for looking at my first post.



I would be very grateful for advice surrounding the use of USB only MIDI out devices when connecting to an audio interface



I have a Roland DUO-Capture EX to plug in my instruments, MIDI keyboard, guitar and mic and record using Mixcraft and Ableton.



I recently got a Alesis DM lite kit for Christmas and used it as a MIDI controller for NI Studio Drummer via the USB output to a USB socket on my PC. I noticed the sound was not as good as when using my Roland interface so I bought a USB to MIDI cable and a type b to type a USB convertor into my Roland interface which did not work.



Searching through the forum and internet the only thing I could find is a Kenton USB to MIDI Host. Has anyone used one before to plug a USB only device into an audio interface? I would like to do this as I noticed in the recording and NI software audio options that the Roland uses ASIO and the PC does not have a decent soundcard only an on-board one and uses synth windows software which does not seem to have as good a sound quality.

Hey I got a Korg A1 and it has Digital In/Out in the back, i was wondering what kind of cable can i use? do i use a 1/4" TRS to Dual 1/4" TS?

AKG k141 left ear dead, similar alternative?

Hi,

I bought the AKG k141 headphones, and I'm loving them for tracking vocals. They are semi-open and supra-aural (sit on the ears instead of around them), and this allows me to hear the sound of my vocals "in the room". I can give a better performance this way.



The problems is that the left ear went dead after 4 days of use. I investigated, and it turns out that this is a common problem with AKG headphones.



From an Amazon review:

"the soldering of the cables to the metal hoop that transmit current to the right ear broke. Apparently, the cable itself is of very bad quality, and does not adhere to soldering (that's the judgment of an engineer who took a look at them). Also, after-sales in my music shop told me that they get a lot of returns for these cans."



Does anyone know of solidly constructed headphones that are similar to the AKG k141 headphones, most importantly being semi-open and supra-aural (so I can hear my vocals ambiently when tracking)? Either that, or I'll need to become handy with a soldering iron :).
