10.1 Instrument folders?

I'm having a great time reorganizing my effects plug ins. But for some reason I don't see how you can reorganize instruments?!?

What am I missing?

Keyboard live - matching patch volumes

Hello everyone,

I'm a keyboard player and for live gigs with my band (pop, rock and top 40 band) I use a nord electro 3 as my primary keyboard (and a mininova for some songs). I tend to switch a bit between patches and this can make the job of the audio engineer quite hard, since some patches are louder than others. I did try to adjust the volume of the different patches by ear and then save them so the volume output is somewhat similar, but this method is far from flawless.

The goal is to have a steady volume when switching between piano, hammonds, hammonds + distorion (tend to be a lot louder than the same hammond patch without distorion) et cetera

I was wondering what some better methods are in matching the volume of the different patches. Would there for example be software to do this? Or software to measure decibels to objectively match the patch volumes? (Or would this not work because different frequencies make the sound less or more penetrating in a live setting?).

I guess this is an issue all keyboard players face, so there must be a lot of tips and tricks (specifically for the Nord electro 3, or keyboards in general) ;)

Thanks in advance!

A design nail hm2 - hard threshold

This is a question for those of you who use and are familiar with the A Design Nail (maybe Pete is even lurking around here somewhere.)

I just got a Nail this past week and Im already in love with its sound and flexibility... but I'm trying to get my head around the hard threshold. I mean I get it, but I'm a little confused by its functionality and I want to make sure I'm using it correctly.

The way i understand it, when the Hard Threshold is in the "off" position, the compressor essentially works like an LA 2A (or 1176 if your playing with the attack and release.) And then as you go past the "off" position, Your basically telling the comp at what point point to essentially ignore or grab peaks, so the further you go clockwise, your clamping down less, right?

But then the question is... If you go all the way clockwise, isn't that essentially the same as having the Hard Threshold in the "off" position? Like if it the comp is wide open all the way to the right, then whats happening differently as opposed to being in the "off" position? Or do i have it backwards and its more wide open the closer to "off" you are?

If anyone can explain this a bit id appreciate it The user's manual really doesn't explain very well and even the guys I bought it from were a little vague on it.

My brother and friends doesn't understand beatmaking.

So I'm into beatmaking. Beats are not full songs, their just backing tracks, essentially, and I'm not sure the other people in my life understand that. Mostly, beats are comprised of a measure or two that repeat for say, a verse, then change up for say, a chorus, but they don't have lots of variation from measure to measure like the melody of a full song would. Whenever I try to show my work to my brother or my friends, my most accessible audiences to bounce stuff off of, they're like "That's cool, but it's too repetitive, you have to change it up"

Albion a good buy?

Hi there

In the last 3 wks I've probably read every single post and listened to every demo in existence about Albion and others.

I need to buy an orchestral library or string library. My computer is an old white macbook with 4gb ram. Albion fits the bill.

Initially I'll be using it for library music but also slowly venturing into writing to picture.

I've written for live strings twice but haven't used woodwind, brass that much. That will most likely change.

The kind of music I write varies but for orchestra I aspire to write for independent films and documentaries as opposed to say Action movies. I may also write occasional trailer cues for library.

Having listened to demos it seems to me the Albion strings are quite limited compared to say Hollywood strings so my first question is:

- Would Albion blend well with other string libraries (If I were to buy them at later stage)

- Having previously used GPO, is Albion in your opinion a good buy as a first orchestral library?

- How do you find working with Albions sections as opposed to writing one part at a time?

Alt-Pop-Rock from Spain

Hi guys,

Here is a rough description of the stuff I used in this song:

- Drums: Mod-plug

- Bass Warwick (active).

- Fender telecaster - POD-XT

- Vocals: AKG perception 220

I can go into details about the recording if you ask for.

I coudn't tell what bands this sounds like, but I guess my influences are mainly old school rock like The Beatles, Bowie and so on. I hope you like it, and of course, comments are more than welcome.

logic 9 and os x ui latency (?)

I have had some problems with logic 9 on my apple computer. Maybe some of you had similar problems

I have used a macbook pro (into core 2 duo and full memory) and logic 9. Until a coupe of months ago this worked great. I could use lots of plugins, NI-stuff and so on. No software latencys and problems with computer hiccups.

Until I installed os x 10.9 (maverick)

This caused logic 9 to behave less good. With UI-latency (the software takes nearly a minute to select a effect from the channel insert. And during that time I can't even stop logig if it's running. And I don't even have more than 3-4 audio tracks and 2,3 plugins / tracks (such as eq and compressor)

So I bought a new computer: mac mini 2012 with 16 gb ram and ssd. It had yosemitu installed.

I installed logic 9 on this. And thought this would be really good. But now I have the same problem, lots of UI latency on small projects.

Is this a general problem that logic 9 don't work on 10.9 and 10.10 ?
