Dana White has been throwing Robbie Lawler down our throats like mashed potatoes and gravy at Thanksgiving dinner.
Dana White says some pretty crazy things but people seem to buy into it. Recently he said Renan was the P4P fighter in the world. People bought into it but then Renan got smashed by an Alpha male, an Alpha male in a title fight. That's unheard of because we all know Alpha don't win titles. Dana White says Ronda would hurt Mayweather. People seem to buy into it. Anyone with half a brain knows Mayweather would have Ronda crying like she just saw her momma kissing Santa Claus. Dana White said UFC fighters were better than Strikeforce fighters. People seemed to buy into that. Anyone that's keeping count knows that Strikeforce fighters have been kicking the shit out of UFC fighters.
So I view all this Robbie hype as Kool-Aid. Some people are believing in the Kool-Aid and I think Robbie is starting too as well.
Listen, the current Robbie isn't a 2.0 Robbie, he's the same old Robbie that always was just with a little bit more luck.
Robbie was set to face Tarec Saffiedine and Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC on Fox 8. Both those fighters got injured and so Robbie faced Bobby Voelker. Saffiedine and Bahadurzada are both high level technical strikers. Better strikers than Rory MacDonald, Johny Hendricks, Jake Ellenberger and of course Josh Koscheck and Bobby Voelker. Robbie would have lost to Saffiedine and Bahadurzada but luck came along and so did the 2.0 talks.
People say that Matt Brown hasn't faced top level competition and that the UFC gives him favorable match-ups. Ladies and gentlemen of MMAShare, I am one of those people. Recently though I have been thinking and looking at Robbies fights in the UFC. I noticed that Robbie gets favorable match-ups too. The difference is that his opponents are higher level guys. Because of this people give Robbie more credit than Matt Brown but in reality they should get the same amount of credit because they both have favorable match-ups.
Robbie wasn't a stud in Strikeforce. He actually had a losing record. There will be people that say "well Robbie didn't fight at his natural weight class." Joe Rogan is one of those people , saying it during one of Robbies fights, perhaps trying to sway peoples opinion on Robbie and that 2.0 is a real thing. I will remind the masses that when Robbie was cut from the UFC in 2004, he fought at 185 from then all the way to 2013. Now the UFC wants you to take out reason and believe that Robbie is 2.0 because of going back to 170lb.
To me Robbies recent UFC record isn't impressive at all. He beat Josh Koscheck who has lost 3 straight and is a wrestler that thinks he's a boxer, he beat Bobby Voelker ????, he beat Rory MacDonald on the judges score cards in a fight were he did next to nothing, lost to Johny Hendricks in a patty cake war and beat Jake Ellenberger who may very well have worse choking ability than Michael Bisping. Son I am not impressed.
