I am nervously posting on this as Im so not a tech, so please excuse my lack of knowledge on this. I hope you can help me.
Basically, I have an RCA console that was built in the 60s. It's post-tube, pre-API, so has Melcor GME-20 Eqs and CL-20 Limiters.
What I am looking at is the option of possibly replacing a handful of the GME-20 Eqs with API-550a eqs or possibly other 500 series types. However, I am unsure of the various factors that may influence this change over. I wanted to get an idea from you guys before I got a tech involved to do this work - if feasible.
My concerns are the following:
1. Dimension - 500 series modules are 5.25" x 1.5". The melcor is the same length but a tad wider at around 1 9/16" or so. This is not a bad thing except a little gap in between connectors.
2. Pin-outs - would anyone know the difference or are the GME-20s similar Pinouts to today's 500 series or vintage 550s?
3. Power - I noticed that the voltages on the opAmps would vary, so perhaps i'd need to upgrade my overall power supply?
I'd love to find out if anyone can assist me with some information on this and help me see if it's possible to go this route. I guess if #2 and #3 above seem straightforward, it would make sense, subject to no other major variables.
