Bluetooth drop-outs,skips with Bose bluetooth SoundLink, recommendations?

I feel a pre-amp is in order:

I got the Bose over-the-ear SoundLink Bluetooth headphones for personal listening. They are $250.00 (US). In the studio I have near-fields and excellent wired headphones, so I'm not expecting to use these headphones for tracking or anything professional.

While the Bose have an excellent sound, I'm experiencing drop-outs/skips when listening to them and it doesn't matter if I use a Mac Mini or an iPhone 5, it has a very brief drop-out/skip enough to destroy the moment of whatever I'm listening to. In a 3-4 minute song it can happen 1-3 times. As you can imagine, it's very annoying. I decided to go with bluetooth because I wanted to be able to have some movement without the concern of a cord. I'm not using them for exercise.

This is the second pair, the first one I returned for this same reason. I'm going to return these too. I tried the firmware update at Bose and it locks up and the update can't complete. This also happened with the first pair I returned. But Bose support told me the update wasn't to fix this issue. If I use the headphones corded, of course there is no problem. I also don't have a problem pairing them, so that's not the issue, it's the drop-outs/skips.

My serious question is, is this as good as bluetooth headphones in 2015 have gotten? I know this product is aimed at consumers and not studio pros, so are consumers just use to this? I have seen in some forums postings about this same problem so I don't know if it's a design, manufacturing or environmental.

So should I just give up on expecting to be able to use bluetooth headphones and go back to a cord, or do others have recommendations of a bluetooth headphone that sounds good and is free of the problem I mentioned? Thanks!
