Patchbay Laziness or Safety ...

So I'm in the middle of a studio build out and I'm at the really long and boring phase of cabling, soldering and putting everything together.

I'm running all of my tie lines from two iso rooms into a patch bay next to my console. I was going to normal them to the inputs on the console (which are directly underneath each corresponding mic line). However I've decided to just leave em be (so I have to manually patch from out to in on each one) for the sake of avoiding any potential phantom power issues. Feeling a little conflicted though. Is this just being lazy or is there justification for not normalling the outs to ins?

I was originally going to go straight into the console via tuchel connectors, but as my outboard preamp selection grows I feel like that may be short sighted (and I'd have to go direct out to outboard preamps which means the console pres would already be having a little of their own effect on the signal). Not a huge deal, but at the moment I feel like a tie line patch bay is more future-proof.

So … lazy or safe? Thoughts?

Thanks
