Poplar vs Alder Tele

I'm building a Tele and am carefully considering poplar and alder for the body. Ash is little bright for me so I'm not considering it.



I'm looking for nice lows, smooth balanced mids and clear highs.



Just wondering in your experience with Tele's, which wood you prefer between solid poplar and alder. I understand there will be a lot of differing opinions.
