The list of artists whose work Mr. Keepnews produced is a literal jazz hall of fame: Mr. Keepnews moved to the Bay Area in the 1970s after the label he created, Milestone Records, was sold to Fantasy Records. Mr. Keepnews oversaw Fantasy’s re-issues department and later founded a new label, Landmark Records, which was instrumental in the early years of Kronos Quartet.
