Studio on the road..did you ever do it?

Hey guys,

Anyone every build a studio inside a camper, caravan or trailer and going on a road trip?

Thinking about doing just that and see where the gas pedal will take me.

Few questions:

What setup would you consider taken with you? (from a recording perspective not so much of an traveling musician.)

Here is what I had in mind gear wise:

- Audio Interface:

Apogee Duet + Apogee Ensemble

They can work in an aggregative way providing enough I/O for high end recording. It's also easy to disconnect the Duet and take wherever needed as it works on Mac and iOS devices.

- Instruments:

Moog RME for analog flavour, Nord Lead 4R for poly flavour, Guitars (1x Acoustic, 1x Bass, 1x Electric), A drumkit that can easily be dismounted or a cajon and such.

Basically it would be adding to what the locals don't have themselves but maybe would love to use if they had the change.

- Controllers:

Maschine Studio, Ableton Push, NI Kontrol s49/61 (not sure), Raven MTI (not sure).

It's not likely everything will be always connected, that would depend on the size of the camper of course.

It also provides great flexibility taking it out the camper and work outside as well.

- Computers:

Mac Mini rack mounted, MPB, iPads.

- Software:

Logic Pro X and Bitwig as main daws, Komplete Ultimate, Maschine and a few more great sample libraries, vst's etc.

Should be more than enough I think.

- Outboard:

Lunchbox with a few preamps, eq's and compressors, Kemper Profiler Amp, FX

The lunchbox would be easy to disconnect and take wherever needed, also easy to swap a module if wanted.

The Kemper would be amazing to take profiles with from amps that locals have, providing ways to edit afterwards or even add to it when the trip is over.

For effects I've not made up my mind yet but it will include some Moog and Strymon pedals for sure.

- Mics:

For drums and instruments probably Sennheiser and SE Electronics.

For vocals, Shure and Telefunken.

They can handle a few drops on the floor, sound great, priced not to expensively.

Monitoring would depend on the camper as well, best of course would be having those build into the interior saving more space that way.

Second question, How much do small/midsize campers cost in America? (any tips on brands)

They're probably very populair in America so probably cheaper as well?

Last question, Is America the best/safest continent to do this kind of musical road trip?

And why?
