UFC officials today confirmed the bout following an initial tweet from Postmedia News’ Dave Deibert.
The event, which serves as the live finale for “The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia” reality series, takes place April 16 at Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. It airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
Poirier, who’s ranked No. 9 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings, most recently knocked out Diego Brandao at UFC 168. The 25-year-old is now 3-1 over his past four fights, which includes wins over Erik Koch and Jonathan Brookins.
He takes on Corassani, who owns a perfect 3-0 UFC record since his stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 14.” Although plagued by injuries over the past few years, he’s now 9-1 (with one no-contest) in his past 11 fights. Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort, who was removed from a planned UFC 173 title fight with middleweight champion Chris Weidman after the NSAC announced the ban on Thursday, today said he didn’t voluntarily pull out of the fight.
The 36-year-old Brazilian made the announcement via social media.
Belfort took issue with Thursday’s report on FOX Sports 1′s “UFC Tonight” that stated Belfort voluntarily withdrew from the card. However, Belfort said he’s also been promised he’ll fight the winner of UFC 173′s new headliner between Weidman (11-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and replacement Lyoto Machida (21-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) once he’s off TRT.
His statement (translation via Google):
I never give up the fight at UFC 173 and never said that. … The UFC decided to put another opponent in my place because I didn’t have time to fit the new rules of the NSAC. According to the UFC, I will face the winner of Weidman vs Lyotto within the new regulations of all the athletic commissions.

A lightweight showdown between Erik Koch and Daron Cruickshank has been added to the UFC’s May 10 return to Cincinnati.
UFC officials Thursday announced the pairing, which takes place at U.S. Bank Arena. No headliner has been announced for the event, but the show will air live on Fox Sports 1 and feature a featherweight contest pitting Nik Lentz against Manny Gamburyan.
Koch recently made his return to the lightweight division after a lengthy run at featherweight that nearly saw him square off with longtime divisional kingpin Jose Aldo. “New Breed” halted a two-fight skid this past Saturday, scoring a technical knockout victory over Rafaello Oliveira on the UFC 170 undercard.
In Cruickshank, Koch will face a fellow striker who owns eight of his 14 victories by way of knockout. “The Detroit Superstar” has gone 4-2 in the Octagon since his stint on “TUF 15,” most recently scoring an impressive second-round TKO of former cast mate Mike Rio last month at UFC on Fox 10.

UFC Adopts Nevada’s TRT Ban for Overseas Events
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has followed the lead of the Nevada Athletic Commission, banning the use of testosterone replacement therapy within the promotion, effective immediately.
UFC President Dana White issued a statement Thursday shortly after the NAC’s ruling, revealing that the organization will no longer accept therapeutic use exemptions for TRT when acting as its own regulatory body.
“The Ultimate Fighting Championship fully supports the decision made today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission regarding the immediate termination of therapeutic use exemptions (TUE) for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT),” the statement reads. “We believe our athletes should compete based on their natural abilities and on an even playing field. We also intend to honor this ruling in international markets where, due to a lack of governing bodies, the UFC oversees regulatory efforts for our live events.
