For me it was my uncle at my grandma's house when I was a little kid. Late 70's early 80'S I remember watching enter the dragon with my uncle and I was immediately hooked. some of the guys I looked up too growing up as a little kid.
I would watch anything with Bruce lee, Chuck Norris, jcvd or Tom Laughlin.
I remember watching everything I could get my hands on in the 80's
the American ninja
the karate kid
kickboxer
bloodsport
berry gordys last dragon
everything that had anything to do with martial arts no matter how cheesy the movie was.
then when ufc 1 came out on video tape. me and my cousin walked a mile and a half to the local video store from my grandmas just to rent it. and the rest was history.
I immediately jumped on the gracie bandwagon and was just mesmerized how a lil 185 lb guy could beat all these heavy weight monsters. I never ever had a clue what bjj was just like everyone else didn't at the time. or how effective it was. but I was even more impressed with how it made karate and kung fu just look like yoga and useless in a real fight. it was a culture shock. everything I loved for so many years as a kid was exposed right in front of my eyes. it was almost like learning there was no such thing as santa clause or that you are adopted. one part of me was excited about this new sport I had discovered but then a part of me was torn because now all my hero's seamed like frauds.
if I had to narrow it down to one specific event that lead me to where I am today as a fan. Its definitely watching bruce lee in enter the dragon with my uncle allen.
