Musical Disaster

Hey guys I've been reading post of this site for a while now and I've finally decided to hop on here with some questions. Backstory: I've been trying to make electronic music for about 6 years and my music is still absolutely terrible. I know I know, it takes time and practice. Believe me it is the only thing I do. I work come home and I work on music. I've watched hundreds of videos, read thousands of posts and articles including most of sound on sound, but I guess I'm just not getting it. While over the years my song writing has definitely improved and the patches I make on synths definitely sound better. There is still a massive difference between the way my songs sound and the way even the most novelist of electronic songs sound. I keep reading layer your synths and sounds to get those crazy sounds but no matter what I try it just ends up sounding like two cheap synths playing at the sametime.



Question: Can anyone out there give me some advice? Or point me at a better video than the vast majority of the videos that are on YouTube. I would even pay for quality lessons if anyone one has any spare time. Again I understand how a synth works and I can make decent patches but they sound like happy meal toy sounds when compared to anyone putting music out. I realize this is a lot to ask and I understand that I need to develope my own sound but it's been so long and I still wouldn't be able to play any of my songs at an event. Maybe there was a point where you were stuck in a similar way. What pulled you out of it?
