Hello everyone. This is my first post so please bear with me.
I'm considering purchasing the Behringer Powerplay Personal Monitor system, but I need to make sure it'll work for my setup. I have an Allen & Heath ZED 22fx mixer. Unfortunately, it doesn't have direct outs so I'm trying to find the best solution to connect the Behringer P-16i Input Module. I've read about using the Inserts on the ZED 22 as direct outs by modifying TRS/TS cables, but it seems like this isn't an ideal solution because of unbalanced connections. I'm not even sure if that's true. So the solution I thought of would be to set up the P-16i Input Module at the FOH and run all the instruments/mics into it. I have a few instruments that each have Direct Boxes which have a Thru port so they can easily plug into the P-16i, but I'm trying to figure out what to do for the microphones.
Currently, I have 8 mics at the FOH that are running into an analog snake that plugs into the mixer in the back. My idea was to run the 8 mics into a Preamp before running them into the snake. The various Preamps I'm looking at all have simultaneous analog/digital outputs. The plan is to use the analog outputs on the preamp to go into the snake and use the ADAT output to go into the P-16i unit. Will this solution actually work or am I missing something? I also saw mic/xlr splitters but would a preamp provide a better solution?
If this actually does work, which preamp would you suggest I purchase? Currently this entire setup is in a small venue so I'm not too sure if there will be major gains in buying a more expensive preamp. This is an additional purchase I wasn't anticipating so I'm trying to keep the cost under $500.
$199 - Behringer Ada8200
$399 - PreSonus DigiMAX D8
$499 - Focusrite OctoPre Mk II
Thank you in advance for your help. It's much appreciated.
