Greetings all and happy new year,
I need to record classical orchestral (32 to 45 musicians) live concerts regularly (mostly for archives), but with as much quality as possible.
We have been using:
1 Zoom H4N
1 pair DPA 2006a (via XLR on Zoom H4N).
The results via XLR are quite poor, so we are thinking of upgrading to a nicer recorder.
In any case, our current equipment is: laptop with Pro Tools 10, RME Fireface 800, Grace Design Lunatec V3 preamp, pair DPA 2006a, pair Røde NT5.
Issue is: it's not handy at all to take computer and interface on the road, so we are looking into buying a portable recorder with good preamps and possibly 4 channels. Price is an issue but we rather save and get something very good rather than wasting money and having to upgrade later.
The goal is to use the DPA pair only, on a stand and stereo boom, connected to this new recorder. If we need something fancier, we may get a second stand/boom for winds/brass/timpani (with the Røde NT5).
Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks and greetings.
