I've got a pair of Kef 104s hooked up to a relatively cheap old Scott amp and then my HTPC that have served me well for years. I have not done any maintenance on them, and I know the person before me had not in years (so at least 20 years without). The other night while watching a bass heavy (action) movie the right speaker seemed to be having some trouble, and started cutting in and out with loud noise. I turned it down and continued the movie, but I think the writing was on the wall. Today I was able to listen to music for a while, but I took a break, came back, and there was no sound. I tried turning the amp off for a while and back on and got some, but clearly there is an ongoing problem. I believe when the speaker is making no noise the amp doesn't show that speaker as playing either if that helps. I know this speaker suffers from some foam rot issues, could this be related? It seemed to me like this might actually be a blown/blowing driver instead. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
