Hi
I'm looking to buy a new microphone for recording vocals and acoustic instruments, but with the priority on vocals. My budget is approximately £500.
I currently own a Rode NT1A so I want something with different responses or significant sound quality improvement. I'd like something which gives a vintage kind of sound, like the vocal sound of The Beatles.
If I were to go second hand, what do you have to look out for to see if the microphone is in good condition? Is there a lot that can go wrong with old mics? Or is it generally safer to go for something new?
I'll be recording through a Scarlett 18i20 or a Behringer X32, so I'll be using their preamps. Is it better to use a separate preamp?
Thanks
Steve
