I've been searching eBay and Craigslist for an old 4-track cassette recorder, but it has to meet certain criteria, so I thought maybe someone here can help. I'm digitally archiving all the original tracks from all my old 4-track recordings, so I need a 4-track that has separate outputs for all 4 tracks.
There's also this other project I'm doing that involves manipulating audio tape as part of a live performance, and for that I need a 4-track that can record to all 4 tracks at once. It's no good to me if it can only record two tracks at a time.
So I'm looking at these used 4-tracks on various sites, but it's hard to tell what the exact specs are, and sometimes the sellers don't really know what they have. So if someone out there could tell me what I should be looking for, or better yet, if they've seen anything on eBay that meets my requirements, I'd sure appreciate it. A couple that I've been looking at on eBay are the Fostex X-55 and the Fostex X-18. Anyone know anything about either of those? Thanks.

Any 4-track experts here?
