Loudness Trends in electronic dance music

Hey everybody!

I'm doing a research on loudness trends in dance music. I’m comparing loudness, dynamic range and frequency content of dance tracks from different time periods and different styles of dance music.

in the picture you can see loudness trends over the last decade and it suggests that over the last few years loudness of electronic dance music is getting lower. The tracks selected were Grammy winners or successful tracks on Beatport which include Top 10 best selling tracks on Beatport of all time.

I'd like to hear what MEs of gearslutz think about that. Do you feel like you can back off the limiter a bit more than you could a couple years ago? What do you think is the appropriate loudness level for edm? what do your clients ask for and how is it different from maybe what they used to ask few yeats ago? Any thoughts are welcome! :)

Here are two videos that show frequency response (data collected using PAZ-Analizer by Waves), Loudness in LUFS ( data collected using Tone Boosters EBU128 meter) , RMS level and dynamic range (data collected using TT offline dynamic range meter) of Grammy winning dance recordings and Beatport all time Top 10 selling tracks.

You can look at this in more detail here: http://ift.tt/1Egn94N

Soon I'll be putting some more data on that page.
