we have electronic drums which only have stereo outputs and no separate control for the FOH guys to be able to gate say the tom drums differently to the kick,snare or cymbals.
BUT they do have Midi out on them.
what i was thinking of doing was getting the midi out of the drums into a laptop running something like studio one which is connected to a presonus studio live desk.
then i can send the output of each midi input into a different channel in studio one and then send those outputs to a different channel on the desk.
before i can try any of that though, problem 1 is how do i get the midi out of the drums on stage to the MAC connected to the mixing console (at the back of the room)?
can you send midi over xlr?
any other thoughts?
