I'm thinking about selling my Xpander. I've had it a few months now and I haven't really gelled with it. I'm not sold on its basic tone/filters and while programming isn't exactly difficult, it creates a bit of a barrier between ideas and satisfaction. I'm not really that much into creating complex routings. Like, if I have inspiration, I want to be able to quickly program a sound without having to route LFOs, envelopes etc etc. I know it's not necessary to do deep routing with the Xpander, but it doesn't have a particularly unique and inspiring basic sound (to me) and it seems like its strength is in its routing matrix.
The other synths I have (and are keepers) are a Yamaha CS15 and a Roland JX-3P. I love both of them. I'm gonna get the Kiwi mod for the 3P sometime soon - I keep putting that on the back burner!
I also have a Yamaha SK20 but it's super limited. I like its basic tone though and the strings/chorus and organ are cool. I've a Teisco SX-400 that's in the process of being repaired, I bought it broken so I dunno what that sounds like in person, but the few demo's online sound like it's something I dig. Volca Keys too.
I had a CS50 which I sold to fund the Xpander. I loved that synth but the non-MIDIness of it was a bit of a pain in the hole. Amazing sound though. I also had a Prophet 600 which I liked but sold to buy the CS50.
So any ideas what I should be looking at? I'd want another poly, maybe a poly and a mono. LP & HP resonant filters would be cool. I know I'm kinda just looking at a JP6 or waiting for the SCI P6 in that case so it's not a deal breaker. MIDI is essential, or at least MIDIfiability.
Cheers!
