First of all is anyone at all giving T.J. a chance this Saturday night other than a long shot? Does anyone feel hes ready for a title shot...? Im obviously not giving him much of a chance, nor do I think hes going to pose more of a threat than Urijah could(early stoppage or not).
I know weve kind of been through this on this forum before but with the disappearance Of AS and GSP, two major draws... why isn't the UFC promoting guys like Barao more? This guy is insane, he hasn't lost a match in like ten years, he destroys his opponents and hes a very likeable guy. People say that the masses may never get behind the lighter weight divisions in the way that they do for the heavier but BJ Penn was a draw and he mostly fought at 155. Perhaps for Penn winning both the LW and WW titles helped.
I think the general concensus for the lack of huge star power of Barao (and maybe hes got more juice than im giving him credit for) is his weight class and his inability to speak English...? I think if the UFC put out more in depth prime times or background stories of these guys the audience would be able to connect more. Its strange that the UFC spends so much money on no names in TUF, yet they don't churn out much TV time for their champs..
I find myself being kind of unexcited for the main event this Saturday and I don't know why... Barao is someone I should look fwd to watch, maybe its a combination of his weight, his opponent and the fact that I don't connect with him much.... im not sure. DC-Hendo and Lawler-Ellenburger are saving this card for me...
what do u guys think?
tbh- I could be off-base in saying that he lacks star power as im only measuring his draw in terms of past PPVs (which I currently have no stats on) and this is largely Amerocentric metrics, he may indeed be a huge star elsewhere in the world besides Brazil and if that's the case I stand corrected.
