The UFC has two new lightweights on its roster, and they’re set to debut next month in Canada.
Josh Shockley (11-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Jason Saggo (9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) have signed with the promotion and are set to meet at UFC 174 in Vancouver. Two sources with knowledge of the fight booking confirmed the news to MMAjunkie on Thursday. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matchup.
The UFC has not yet announced the fight.
UFC 174 takes place June 14 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The main card airs on pay—per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. The Shockley-Saggo fight is likely to be part of the preliminary card.
UFC 174 is headlined by a flyweight title bout between champ Demetrious Johnson and challenger Ali Bagautinov.
Shockley is a four-time Bellator veteran who went 2-2 with that promotion, including a win over UFC and “TUF” veteran Shamar Bailey, a fellow Indiana resident. Since his Bellator debut in March 2011, Shockley has won five of six fights, including back-to-back wins for Hoosier Fight Club, a regional promotion near his home.
Shockley’s main training base is the Duneland Vale Tudo team in Northwest Indiana that is led by UFC vet Keith Wisniewski and includes Darren Elkins and Eddie Wineland. His 11 wins include eight by stoppage. But when he makes his UFC debut, it will have been more than a year since his most recent fight – a decision win against Micah Miller, the brother of UFC vet Cole Miller.
Saggo, a 28-year-old Canadian, comes to the UFC on a four-fight run since his lone loss, a split-decision setback to UFC vet Jesse Ronson in August 2011. Since then, he has four stoppages, including three straight rear-naked choke submissions fighting for regional promotions in Canada. All nine of the Ontario native’s wins have been finishes, including eight submissions.
With the addition, the UFC 174 card now includes:
Champ Demetrious Johnson vs. Ali Bagautinov for UFC flyweight title
Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley
Ryan Bader vs. Rafael Cavalcante
Andrei Arlovski vs. Brendan Schaub
Kiichi Kunimoto vs. Daniel Sarafian
Ryan Jimmo vs. Ovince St. Preux
Mike Easton vs. Yves Jabouin
Kajan Johnson vs. Tae Hyun Bang
Roland Delorme vs. Michinori Tanaka
Germaine de Randamie vs. Milana Dudieva
Jason Saggo vs. Josh Shockley
