Hello fellow slutz,
First and foremost, I'd like to say that I am no keyboard player. I'm a guitarist by heart that fell in the synthesizer rabbit hole. Since I've been lurking here for sometime, I couldn't help but notice resentment towards minikeys. Whenever announcements of new synths come about, people chime in on how much they hate the mini keys that come with it and avoid it like they would their neighborhood leper..
Is it psychological? A matter of preference? Principle? I am a firm believer that any musical tool can be mastered given time and dedication. As mentioned above, I am a guitar player.. But I also play the ukulele which I feel is synonymous to "mini keys." There was an initial learning curve, in time, "muscle memory" adapted and the familiarity with the intervals, octaves set in. I also feel comfortable switching from 61 full keys to dwarf like 2 octave minikeys.. When I watch people like Jordan Rudess (flame suit on) and Rich Formidoni play minikeys, It doesn't seem like they're having a difficult time.
Please enlighten me.
