I have a guitarist friend who was asking me this morning about getting a software amp sim, but he also needs drums/rhythm. I used to stay somewhat abreast of this stuff, but I wasn't sure what to recommend to him. I told him I thought there were two ways to go: piecemeal -- buying a entry-level host like Reaper, and then each plug-in, like GR3 and EZDrummer... or to get one of the fuller DAW's which should have some decent amp sims and drums included. He's never used a DAW before and probably won't be doing a lot of deeper MIDI editing. I want to tell him to get Cubase 8 Artist for $300, mostly because I am a long-time Cubase user and know that DAW in case he should need help. Thanks for any suggestions
