filtering basslines from the same sample... compression question

do you usually low pass your signal before or after compressing it?



usually i would compress the sample first and then do the filtering. but lately i've been compressing the filtered sample, especially when there is thumps from a kick in the bass



any thoughts on this and how i may be able to get thumps out the sub signal better when replaying/playing a bassline just doesn't make sense?
