KING MO: "I'M GONNA BOX CIRCLES AROUND RAMPAGE"

I pumbed on this article on Fight hype dot com , interesting King Mo rate his last fight 6/10 ....

"I knew he would say something and then I thought they would give me the microphone so I could say something, but then he started getting crunk and I ain't no bitch, so I was like f*ck it. The thing with me was, we could have handled that shit right then and there because the Rampage that I saw fight M'Pumba ain't gonna do shit to me...He can do other things, but it won't work against me. It's like this, I'm gonna box circles around Rampage," stated Bellator light heavyweight King Mo Lawal, who talked about his recent victory over Mikhail Zayats, the exchange of words he had with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, and their upcoming showdown. Check out what else he had to say!

Congratulations on the win. How do you feel about your performance?

KM: I would say 6 out of 10. I felt like my jab was landing when I was moving. I felt like I could catch him, but I couldn't get my footing, man. Even him, Mikhail Zayats even told me after the fight that he couldn't get his footing. The whole card, everybody was slipping and sliding, dawg. It's like the mat was weird. Granted, I could have went for broke, but I didn't want to go for broke and slip and get injured or get caught with something, so I played it smart. I was in shape. Even when I shot on him, I couldn't get good footing. I was off-balance on my shots. But as long as I got the W, man; 30-27.

You trained in Florida at American Top Team for this fight. How did you feel with a new camp and a new guy in your corner calling the shots?

KM: It was a great camp. Kami Barzini was the head corner man and I have known Kami since he first came to the country. I have been knowing Kami since I was 19. He cornered me in wrestling. I talk to him every day and he is like an older brother to me. It felt natural.

Was there anything about Zayats that surprised you or was he pretty much what you expected?

KM: He was pretty much what I expected. He was kind of slick and slippery. I was trying to counter him with the right hand. He's kind of tricky. He threw more kicks than I expected. He's a tough dude. I like watching him fight, but against me, it just wasn't a good fight.

I want to word this right...since you are known for knocking guys out and all of your wins but one is by way of KO or TKO, do you feel people judge your fights closer than what they are based on if you were not visibly hurting guys or knocking them out?

KM: Yeah, definitely! Sherdog had Mikhail Zayats winning. One guy had him winning all 3 rounds and another guy had him winning 29-28. Dawg, Mikhail Zayats' corner came over to me after the fight was over and told me I won. They knew I won, but it's like, say when Mike Tyson fought James "Quick" Tillis and "Quick" Tillis was the first one to go all 10 rounds with him. He lasted the whole fight. People gave him more credit for lasting the whole fight with Mike Tyson when he probably lost every round. Sometimes they give you extra credit. He stopped a few of my shots because I couldn't penetrate. They made it like he was just shutting me off and easily stuffing my takedowns. He was going backwards and sliding back into the cage. It's not like he was stuffing me. It's whatever, man; people gonna do what they wanna do and see what they wanna see.

Of course the normal Bellator staredown between the two guys that moved on in the tournament never happened because Rampage decided to call you out in a rant and things got heated. Were you surprised by the way he called you out?

KM: I knew he was gonna do some ho shit like that when I walked up. But of course people... I don't give a damn; f*ck it, you know what I'm saying? I knew he would say something and then I thought they would give me the microphone so I could say something, but then he started getting crunk and I ain't no bitch, so I was like f*ck it. The thing with me was, we could have handled that shit right then and there because the Rampage that I saw fight M'Pumba ain't gonna do shit to me.

Obviously the hatred is still there. How do you see it playing out against Rampage?

KM: He didn't do anything to M'Pmuba. He just slipped and Rampage did what any fighter would do and pounced.

The thing that was crazy is that you weren't even in the camera angle yet when he went off on you. So it wasn't like you was trying to interrupt his post-fight interview or something, but this has been a long time coming.

KM: Yeah, yeah! But that's cool. It's all good though because come May 17th when I fight Rampage, I'm going to get my 13th win! The thing people gotta understand about my last two fights with both Newton and Zayats is that when they are hurt or feel dangered, they go for broke. Zayats even attempted a spinning backfist. He threw a lot of kicks and he threw that spinning backfist. He is an awkward dude. I like him though. He is a tough guy. But if a person try to fight me straight up and be conventional, I knock them out.

Is that what you are expecting from Rampage, the conventional boxing stance and you guys just trading shots so to speak?

KM: He can do other things, but it won't work against me. It's like this, I'm gonna box circles around Rampage. And he said, "What you gonna do, try and take me down? You couldn't take down Zayats." Well, I had my head inside of Zayats and just tried to get like high crotches and double legs from the outside. I tried things from the inside just to get him up against the cage. That's all I was doing. Kami was like, "Mo, for this fight, don't worry about takedowns; lets get him against the cage and control him." Usually when I get people against the cage, I back up and reset. This time, when I got him against the cage, I tried to work a lil' bit. I was working on things that I worked on in practice more than anything.

After your first takedown attempt, you hit him with a good left hook. I was surprised that he was able to stand up to it. Did it shock you as well or you didn't feel you caught him just right?

KM: I hit him on top of his head (laughing). If I would have hit him on his temple or his cheek, it would have been over, but he dipped his head down. I did hit him with a good right hand and he backed up. I think I hurt him with the jab a few times as well. The thing is, when he is hurt, he goes crazy. You seen that in the Babalu fight, so I was like, "Alright, I'm gonna be smart."

You got back to your jab a little more for this fight after abandoning it for a few fights.

KM: Yeah, I got back on the jab, but I didn't commit to it too much or nothing because the canvas was so slippery.

I'll let you enjoy your family time my man. I appreciate the time as always and congrats again. Is there anything else you want to add?

KM: Nah, just...hold on...Asha [King Mo's daughter], come here. Asha, tell them bye.

Asha: Bye!

KM: That's all I gotta say (laughing).
