Former UFC flyweight challengers John Dodson (15-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and John Moraga (14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will meet at the upcoming UFC Fight Night event in Albuquerque.
UFC officials today announced the bout.
The event, likely to be UFC Fight Night 43, takes place place June 7 at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque. Broadcast plans haven’t been revealed for the card, though the main card is likely to air on FOX Sports 1 with prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Dodson vs. Moraga will likely be part of the main card.
The fighters first met in 2010 at a Nemesis Fighting show in the Dominican Republic. Dodson earned a three-round decision win.
Since joining the UFC and winning “The Ultimate Fighter 14,” Dodson has won four of five UFC fights. The 29-year-old, who’s based out of Team Jackson-Winkeljohn in Albuquerque, suffered his lone UFC defeat to champion Demetrious Johnson in January 2013, though he earned a “Fight of the Night” bonus in the decision loss. The fighter rebounded in October with a win over Darrell Montague, which earned “Knockout of the Night” honors.
Moraga, meanwhile, got his title shot seven months after Dodson got his. The champ, though, tapped out Moraga with a fifth-round armbar, which snapped the 30-year-old’s seven-fight winning streak. However, the Arizona-based fighter rebounded in January with a split-decision victory over Dustin Ortiz.
The latest UFC Fight Night 43 card now includes:
Benson Henderson vs. Rustam Khabilov
John Dodson vs. John Moraga
Lance Benoist vs. Bobby Voelker
