I'm tired of the trash talk that goes on in mixed martial arts these days. Someone needs to remind Chael Sonnen (the worst offender) that he fights in the UFC, not the WWE. All of this bullsh*t gives the sport an overall tone of disrespect. I went to an amateur grappling tournament a couple months ago, and every fight began & ended with the participants shaking hands- a show of respect (take note of that, Ronda Rousey). The common explanation for trash talk is "we're trying to sell the fight". Well, you can sell a fight and still have class. I realize that mixed martial arts is not the only sport that engages in trash talk. But mma is still trying to gain a wider mainstream acceptance. Is sinking to the level of classless behavior that other sports engage in really the answer?
I may be coming off as a grumpy old man on this one, but it's how I feel. I love the sport, and I hate to see such classless behavior from its participants.
