You shoot me down, but I won't fall. I am titanium!

After more than one year on the sidelines, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva will be making his return to mixed martial arts (MMA).

And he's bringing his bionic leg with him.

"The Spider" shattered his shin during the UFC 168 pay-per-view (PPV) main event last December, and had a titanium rod surgically implanted to help stabilize his leg (hear his doctor break it all down right here). Silva actually has the option to remove it, but according to comments he made on today's UFC 183 media conference call (listen), it's staying put.

At least for the time being.

That means he'll still be part machine when he slugs it out against Nick Diaz in the headlining affair of the promotion's annual Super Bowl Weekend extravaganza, which takes place on Jan. 31, 2015 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (details).

As far as throwing more leg kicks?

Silva told reporters that he was indeed kicking during the rehabilitation process and will continue to do so throughout training camp; however, the Brazilian does not intend to kick hard or put 100-percent of his effort behind his new leg until the actual fight.

Better safe than sorry!

Not that it will be all peaches and cream for Diaz. The wily Stockton slugger is also coming off a loss and hasn't seen the inside of the Octagon since a unanimous decision loss to Georges St. Pierre way back in March of 2013. And that doesn't take into account the fact that he's jumping up from welterweight.

Either way, there are a lot of unknowns heading into this "super fight" ... which makes it all the more compelling.
