Mike King flunks UFC Fight Night 46 drug test, loses $50,000 bonus
Mike King‘s failed drug test at UFC Fight Night 46 will be a costly one.
UFC officials today announced that King (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) failed a drug test due to nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, following his submission loss to middleweight Cathal Pendred (14-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at the July 19 event, which took place at The Helix in Dublin.
As a result, “The Ultimate Fighter 19″ cast member has been forced to surrender his $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus.
Additionally, he’s been suspended nine months, retroactive to the event, and must pass another drug test before he can fight again.
UFC officials subsequently confirmed he’s been released from the promotion.
According to UFC.com:
UFC middleweight Mike King tested positive for nandrolone following his bout against Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night Dublin: McGregor vs. Brandao on July 19, 2014. He was informed that his positive test violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. He agreed to serve a 9-month suspension retroactive to the event and must pass a drug test before receiving clearance to compete again. He will forfeit his $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus.
King’s opponent was less than sympathetic:

King, a 31-year-old Ohioan, made his promotional debut at the event, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass. He battered Pendred in the first round but ultimately suffered a second-round submission loss via rear-naked choke.
