Mpx16 - Omni wtf?

I just grabbed an mpx16, and all is going well, except for the lack of midi channel control. Can anyone A.) explain why Akai would feel the best functionality for this thing would be Omni midi in!? And B.) how do I turn it off?

It's my understanding that the mpx8 only used channel 10, in and out. That blows too, but at least you can dedicate a channel to it! This thing sounds good, (not great but oh well), the functionality is really usable, as I never had pads before, but this midi mess is an f-ing joke!

After all the amazing stuff you hear about mpc's vast midi control, etc, you would figure an option to at least pick your midi channel, (a very basic function), would have been implemented. Could they even save money leaving this out?

Reading different people, on the akai forum, complain about how useless this technical decision was, only to be told of some update soon. Sure enough, 3 months later; nothing. I mean why do they even send representatives in the forum just to lie?

Honestly Akai, you cheap mofo, don't even add midi ports if you can't supply the most basic/standards. Everyone else, don't buy this half baked controller, (with amazing pad layout - grrrrr!); it will just make you wanna spit.

Without resorting to a hundred dollar midi filter, or using the usb, (which has the same crappy behaviour - but at least you can route the midi in a daw), can anybody recommend a remedy?
