So, I got a new MBP (non-retina). Updating from a very old regular white MacBook. I want to run Pro Tools on this and I'm looking for some input on what upgrades I should make to be running smoothly.
The stock computer is a 13" and has a 2.5 GHz Intel core i5 (dual core, I think), 4 GB of RAM, and the 5400 rpm HDD. (I realize this obviously isn't an ideal rig. Will mostly be used for location tracking and comping at home.)
What I'm thinking of doing is replacing the stock HDD with a 7200 rpm HDD and replacing the optical drive with an SSD (or vice versa). I would boot from the SSD and keep all the audio on the HDD so that I don't have to deal with externals. I'll probably get an enclosure for the stock drive and use it for backups, etc.
I think the 4 GB of RAM should be sufficient for getting started. I plan on maxing it out to 8GB soon.
How does this sound? Do I have my priorities straight?
The other option is to max the RAM and get a SSD for the boot drive and continue using a FW 7200 rpm external drive for audio until I can get the second internal drive.
Thanks
