UFC doing Werdum dirty??

Werdum will be 38 when he faces Cain.

Image

The UFC i believe is doing Werdum dirty with all these TUF shows he has to do.

He had to wait a full year to fight Nogueira, he had to wait 10 months to face Browne and now he has to wait 7 months to face Cain.

Sure Werdum gets paid for the TUF shows but fighters want to be champion

Even so

But still

Andrei Arlovski vs. Brendan Schaub at UFC 174 *POLL*

http://ift.tt/1fBBXgn

ImageImage

For the first time in six years, Andrei Arlovski will return to the pay-per-view Octagon he once called home.

"The Pitbull" is scheduled to challenge Brendan Schaub on June 14 at UFC 174, promotion officials announced Friday.

A former UFC heavyweight champion, Arlovski (21-10, 1 NC) hasn't competed in the UFC since exiting the promotion on a three-fight win streak in mid-2008.

Arlovski bounced across the landscape during his time away, fighting for a myriad of major organizations including Affliction, EliteXC, Strikeforce, ONE FC and WSOF, among others.

His career looked to be nearing an end in 2011, when the Belarusian dropped four straight fights against the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Brett Rogers, Antonio Silva, and Sergei Kharitonov, three of which ended in violent knockouts. However the 35-year-old rebounded to win seven of his next eight fights (one of which, a second-round KO of Tim Sylvia in ONE FC, was overturned into a no contest due to a bizarre rule regarding soccer kicks, which was promptly amended following the bout).

Now revitalized and riding his latest two-fight win streak, Arlovski looks to test himself against Schaub (10-3), who rebounded from a career-worst two-fight slump by picking up consecutive victories over Lavar Johnson and Matt Mitrione in 2013.

UFC 174 takes place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. An updated fight card can be seen below.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Ali Bagautinov

Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley

Ryan Bader vs. Rafael Cavalcante

Andrei Arlovski vs. Brendan Schaub

Daniel Sarafian vs. Kiichi Kunimoto

Yves Jabouin vs. Mike Easton

Roland Delorme vs. Michinori Tanaka

Kajan Johnson vs. Tae Hyun Bang

As we see, some devisions didnt get any changes, but some been interesting especially the

Light Heavyweight devision.

Anthony johnson has jumped 9 places and we can see Chael Sonnen fallen 2 places and one place before Rua.

Since he won vs Rua and they mostly have the same scoring shouldnt Chael be nr. 8 ?

In the Middleweight nothing much changed, except that Thales Leites is significantly climbing up the ladder.

Erick Silva and Ryan Laflare makes a curious case as well in the Welterweight.

Ryan LaFlare 4-0 and Erick Silva 4-3 in the UFC. Yet Silva is over LaFlare.

Anyway his next match matt brown will decide the lower part of the Welterweight devision.

So What Does MMASHARE Thinks?

Karo Parisyan makes bizarre joke about Ronda Rousey, Manny Gamburyan and tampons

Image

ck in the day Karo Parisyan was a top Welterweight in the UFC. From 2003 - 2010 he went 8-4 in the UFC with 1 NC. But that's been a long time. Currently he's 1-1 in Bellator and hoping to turn things around. He spoke to MMA Junkie and the interview delved into the MMA gym politics involving Karo, his cousin Manny Gamburyan and their long-time training partner Ronda Rousey.

All three fighters got their start in MMA under the legendary Armenian Judoka Gokor Chivichyan at his Hayastan MMA Academy in Hollywood, CA. Parisyan left the gym for many long stretches during his various battles with personal demons including an untreated torn hamstring, pain pills and a less than complete commitment to hard training. But now Karo is back and he appears to want his cousin Manny and Ronda Rousey to come back to Hayastan too. Manny and Ronda mostly train with Edmund Tarverdyan at Glendale Fighting Club a few blocks from Hayastan.

Here's what Karo had to say about all that:

"Why is Ronda frickin good? Why is Ronda an animal, this little white girl? Because guys would not come train with us," he said. "They didn't want to come train with us, because they thought we were animals and we would hurt them. Ronda was this little white girl that would get on the mat and cry.

"I would have to yell at her and say, ‘You better suck your lip back in right now and get on the f-king mat. We're not dealing with your crap, Ronda.' And she would suck it in. I would say a small joke and maybe smile, and boom, she was on the mat again, and she was f-king dudes up. That's why she's so good, because she was training with animals like us. And she's naturally strong. Ronda's legit.

"That's all good," Parisyan said. "No animosity toward them. Good for Manny, good for Ronda, because Manny's always there with her at the trainings and stuff, and Ronda might be on her period and she might take her underwear off and stuff, so Manny helps her out with that stuff, too, like with the tampons and everything else."

He jokingly added, "I'm being a d*ck to them."

Oh Karo. We do know who we're talking to bro. We do.

Javier Mendez believes Cain Velasquez would beat Jon Jones at heavyweight after 'Bones' drops title to Daniel Cormier

Image

American Kickboxing Academy head Javier Mendez isn't modest when it comes to prized pupils Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier. The pair may be booked at the moment, but they each seem to be a collision course with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Asked for his take on how his fighters stack up with 'Bones,' Mendez sees AKA wins at both heavyweight and 205 pounds. Even with Jones holding a reach advantage of 12.5 inches, Mendez insists that won't be a game-changer against Cormier.

"Out of everybody that Jones' has fought, Daniel's going to be the one that's not going to have an issue with his reach, that's not going to have an issue getting inside," Mendez told Submission Radio. "He is going to get inside. You know, what happens is gonna happen, but I guarantee you this, he's going to go inside, Daniel's going to take him down and we'll see what happens from there."

Jones has been heavily criticized this week for how he helps maintaining that range, by placing his outstretched fingers dangerously close to his opponents' eyes. Jones was warned of the practice by referee Dan Miragliotta during his UFC 172 title bout with Glover Teixeira, but no action was taken.

"I don't think that's a strategy they used on purpose, I just think it's an unfortunate thing that happens because of the way the gloves are," said Mendez. "So if there's something that can be done to fix the gloves, that would be fantastic, or if there's something to say that you can't stick your fingers out like that like they do in boxing you know, you can't do it in MMA, then that can help out."

If or when Jones should make a move to heavyweight, Mendez doesn't expect Velasquez to be thrown for a curve.

"Jon will definitely pose some problems for Cain, but Cain's going to pose more problems for Jon that he's never faced in his whole entire life."

With Velasquez set to defend his title to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 in November and Cormier slated to face Dan Henderson May 24 at UFC 173, hypotheticals will have to do for now.

Marcos Maidana trainer: Cain has skills to become boxing champion in 2 or 3 years

Marcos Maidana trainer: 'Cain Velasquez has skills to become boxing champion in two or three years'

By Adam Guillen Jr. @AdamGuillenJr on Apr 30 2014, 11:00a

Cain Velasquez has shown that he can outstrike the best-of-the-best in mixed martial arts (MMA). But, can "Brown Pride" do the same to the best Heavyweight boxers in the world? One famed trainer seems to think he can.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez, has already conquered the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).

But, can he do the same in the sport of boxing? Robert Garcia, famed trainer of the "sweet science," seems to think so.

Speaking to Sherdog, Garcia -- who has trained the likes of Antonio Margarito, Kelly Pavlik, Fernando Vargas and Brandon Rios, among others -- says that during a recent training session with Velasquez, he instantly knew the 265-pound UFC champion has what it takes to make some noise in the boxing world.

His words:

"There's a local [MMA] gym here in Oxnard, and I have had some of the guys come in and do stand up with us. One of the guys that came in for a few days that was training with me that we were really excited to have was Cain Velasquez. He was here for three days and worked with me and everything. I think this guy is not only great at what he does, but he could also be a great boxer because he's got tremendous power. When I hold the mitts with Cain Velasquez, right away I told his people that brought him, I said, ‘What do you guys think about training for boxing because this guy could make a lot of noise in professional boxing?' He's got skills and tremendous power. He's got good boxing skills. I think a good trainer could teach him how to fight, build up a good record in two or three years and become a champion. I honestly believe so."

Nothing better than to receive the praise of a man whose molded countless champions in the sport of boxing.

Indeed, Cain has show he can pack a punch and possesses great technique acquired during his time with American Kickboxing Academy (AKA). While Velasquez has yet to land a one-punch knockout inside the Octagon, he has proven he can out-strike the best of them on the feet.

Just ask Junior dos Santos ... or don't.

Garcia's next challenge will come this weekend (May 3, 2014) as he prepares Marco Maidana to take on the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Floyd Mayweather Jr., in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Velasquez, meanwhile, will next go toe-to-toe against Fabricio Werdum -- a man who proved in his last outing that his striking has improved leaps and bounds -- at UFC 180 on Nov. 15, 2014 in Mexico City. But first, the two men will battle it out as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Latin America," which premiers on Aug. 18, 2014.

See their first staredown pic right here.

And who knows, should Velasquez ever decide to jump ship, perhaps he can become the first-ever to hold titles in both sports.

Palhares vs Fitch cancelled , WSOF issues warning to fighters

Image

"Enough is enough."

Ali Abdel-Aziz, the executive vice president of World Series of Fighting, is tired of feeling like he is being taken advantage of, and he's apparently putting his foot down.

Abdel-Aziz told MMAFighting.com on Wednesday that due to personal reasons Rousimar Palhares has withdrawn from his welterweight title fight against Jon Fitch on July 5. Palhares' manager Alex Davis was not immediately available to discuss why Palhares had to pull out of the fight.

As a result, the new main event of WSOF 11 will be Justin Gaehtje vs. Nick Newell for the lightweight title. Abdel-Aziz added that the promotion is working towards booking Fitch vs. Jake Shields in the co-main event. Also slated to fight on the July 5 card, which just so happens to be the same date as UFC 175, are Melvin Guillard and JZ Cavalcante in separate bouts. A venue has yet to be finalized for the card.

So why has Abdel-Aziz had enough?

"We're getting screwed," he said. "I'm trying to put on a fight card and be nice to fighters, and now they dont want to fight each other.

"I have to put WSOF first and everyone else second. No more Mr. Nice Guy."

Abdel-Aziz said he has grown increasingly tired of fighters turning down fights after agreeing to them and/or asking to be released with hopes of signing with the UFC or other promotions. Just last week, WSOF agreed to release Andrei Arlovski from his contract to sign with the UFC. Prior to that, Josh Burkman and Gerald Harris, who says he is now retired from MMA, publicly complained about their status with WSOF. He added that there were other similar examples that he wanted to keep off the record, as well.

"I'm getting sick of this," he said. "If a fighter is not going to respect the promotion, he is going to be shelved for a long time. I will not release anyone to another promotion. Fighters must honor their contracts."

The promotion's next event, WSOF 10, is slated to take place June 21. It will be headlined by Dave Branch vs. Jesse Taylor for the WSOF middleweight title and Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Rick Glenn for the featherweight title.

Dana White: I Would 'Easily' Beat Tito Ortiz in a Boxing Match

Image

Looks like the latest chapter in the ongoing feud between UFC President Dana White and company Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz has been written in the past couple of days.

After UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones recorded his 14th win under the UFC banner against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 on Saturday, the promotion declared him the winningest 205-pounder in history.

That didn't sit well with Ortiz, who actually has 15 UFC victories under his belt.

@titoortiz

Now I'm being erased from @ufc history! Wow that is low! It will come back three fold. Sorry fans. @espn @foxsports

While White didn't directly address the situation, he had no problem taking a shot at the self-proclaimed "People's Champion" when a fan brought his name into the equation on Twitter (language NSFW).

"@FataL_Tito f--k that s--t!!! I'm straight up about that, Tito would kill me in a grappling/MMA fight. I will Box Tito and win EASILY."

Believe it or not, White and Ortiz were scheduled to square off in an exhibition boxing match back in March 2007, but the bout was called off when Ortiz did not show up for weigh-ins, per MMA Junkie.

White revisited the situation as recently as January, stating that Ortiz bailed because "he was going to get his ass whooped on national television," per MMA Fighting.

Once one of the most dominant champions competing inside the Octagon, Ortiz posted a horrid 1-7-1 record in his last nine fights before retiring in July 2012.

However, one year later, he signed a deal with rival promotion Bellator and is set to make his company debut at the promotion's inaugural pay-per-view event May 17.

Middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko called out Ortiz for the event and has agreed to bump up to 205 pounds for the matchup.

Surprising, Ortiz has yet to respond to White's tweet from Monday morning.

Jon Jones Mocks Haters

script

Jon Jones: champion, father...troll?

Following his dominant victory over Glover Teixeira at UFC 172, the UFC light heavyweight king Jones took to Instagram to mock his detractors.

Jones' victory at the event sparked controversy. The champion utilized an outstretched hand to find his range on the feet, repeatedly poking Teixeira in the eye in the process.

Apparently, Jones doesn't take kindly to these critics, and he uploaded a short video to Instagram expressing his thoughts on the matter.

While Jones deleted the video from his Instagram account shortly after posting, according to the sleuths of Reddit, it has been since immortalized on YouTube.

Now all can enjoy it in its full glory.

UFC Fantasy Matchmaker April 2014 Edition

Image

There is an art to matchmaking in combat sports.

While some fights come together with natural ease, most bouts are formed through a hectic process of evaluation. Several aspects need to be graded on each side of the table before committing to the matchup.

Whether or not a fight makes sense in the divisional scheme, timing and making sure both fighters stand to gain similar rewards are the most pressing issues that come to mind. Then, of course, there is the most important aspect of a potential fight: Will both competitors be willing to mix it up and put on a show?

The unfortunate part of the process comes when all of these criteria are met, and the fight fails to deliver. That said, the UFC showcases far more exciting tilts than flat fights these days, which goes to show just how good Joe Silva and Sean Shelby are at their jobs.

The 2014 campaign is well underway and fight fans have been treated to a storm of action-packed tilts from all corners of the UFC roster.

Every weight class under the promotional banner is in full swing, as champions are set to defend their titles, prospects will be looking to make good on their hype and savvy veterans will continue to battle to keep their footing in their respective divisional hierarchies in the coming months.

Every month we like to give you a batch of potential matchups that would serve as relevant additions to divisional pictures and title races. While this installment is coming late in the month, MMA road trips and other projects have bumped it back on the schedule. Nevertheless, this month's offering will be in close proximity to May's lineup, but there is always room for more fantasy matchmaking.

Let's take a look at the April offerings for Fantasy Matchmaker: April 2014 edition.

Roy Nelson vs. Mark Hunt

There are many different elements of inner-cage violence that draws the eyes of fans to a fight, but there is none perhaps more appealing than the potential to see the one-shot knockout.

While technical matchups that create stylistic chess matches are great for the hardcore demographic of the fighting faithful, matchups where the leather is going to fly with reckless abandon can elevate pulses across the board.

With this in mind, Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt have been doing some of the best work the knockout business has seen in recent years. "Big Country" and the "Super Samoan" have been turning out lights in the heavyweight division at a consistent rate as they've been settling the opposition in brutal, highlight worthy fashion.

Due to the instability of the divisional ranks, the respective paths of these two heavy-hitters have never crossed, but it could very well be time for this collision of iron-chinned, brick-handed sluggers to step into the Octagon together.

Since winning the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter, Nelson has been one of the premier knockout artists in the heavyweight collective. The Las Vegas native has claimed a slew of victims with his signature overhand right and proven time and time again that if the 36-year-old touches his opponent's chin with one clean shot, the long sleep will abruptly follow.

There is no more prominent and painful example than what the former IFL champion did to MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in his most recent outing.

After several minutes of back-and-forth action in their main event tilt at Fight Night 39 in Abu Dhabi, Nelson launched a missile of a right hand that ushered "Big Nog" into oblivion. The former Pride and UFC interim champion dropped lifeless to the canvas, as Nelson turned to acknowledge the crowd appreciation for his walk-off home run.

While defeating Nogueira isn't going to catapult him to the front of the line for a title opportunity, it will guarantee his next opponent will come from the elite ranks of the division, and Mark Hunt could very well be that next draw.

Where the New Zealand native started out sluggish under the UFC banner, the former K-1 champion has quickly risen to become a major player in the heavyweight mix.

The 40-year-old put the brakes on a six-fight losing streak by finding success in four consecutive outings, which included a blistering knockout victory over Cheick Kongo and a one-punch annihilation of Stefan Struve that shattered the Dutchman's jaw in March 2013.

The gritty powerhouse may have suffered a loss to Junior dos Santos and battled to a majority draw with Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in his two most recent showings, but his hard-nosed performances in both showings have only served to elevate his stock with the UFC's fanbase.

More than ever before in his career, people want to see Hunt work his craft against opponents who will stand and trade with him, and there is no fighter more game in that regard than Nelson.

Both fighters have well-deserved reputations for looking for the finish. A potential pairing of these two heavyweight sluggers would certainly be a "must-watch" affair.

Urijah Faber vs. Dominick Cruz

A typical situation in MMA sees a fighter either rise or fall due to their success or lack thereof inside the cage. That said, there are some athletes who wind up in strange situations, and both Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber are members of that club.

The "California Kid" has been a perennial contender in whatever weight class he has chosen to inhabit. The Team Alpha Male leader held the WEC featherweight tile for an impressive stint, but after failing to retain the strap and a lopsided loss to champion Jose Aldo, the Sacramento resident decided to drop down into bantamweight waters in late 2010.

The 34-year-old made an immediate impact in the 135-pound ranks and earned a title shot against champion Dominick Cruz in his third showing in the weight class. Faber would come out on the losing end of a hard-fought battle with "The Dominator," but his status as one of the best in the division wouldn't be tarnished for long.

He would steamroll Brian Bowles in his next outing and set up a trilogy bout with Cruz. Unfortunately, the Team Alliance member would suffer a substantial injury, and the former WEC 145-pound title holder would face Renan Barao for the interim title.

While Faber come out on the losing end of the fight with Barao at UFC 149 in 2012, then again in the main event of UFC 169 earlier this year, he's absolutely demolished everything put in his path outside of title contention.

Outside of current title challenger and teammate T.J. Dillashaw, Faber has cut like a buzzsaw through the rest of the potential contenders in the division, save for Cruz, that is why this fight makes sense.

The recently stripped bantamweight champion has been on the sidelines with a knee injury for more than two years, and his attempts to come back have all ended in shambles. With multiple timelines set that all eventually fell through due to his inability to get his knee back to health, UFC President Dana White drew the proverbial line in the sand with his unification bout against Barao at UFC 169.

If Cruz couldn't make the fight, he would be forced to vacate the title, and several weeks out from the clash in New Jersey, that is exactly what happened.

Where an immediate return against Barao seemed a bit crazy back in February, it would only seem more so if Cruz decided to reschedule the fight later in the year.

It is understandable that Cruz wouldn't want to come back outside of the title realm, but returning from what could realistically be a three-year absence from the Octagon to face a fighter who has remained as busy and looked as dominant as Barao, would be a steep hill for even someone as proven as Cruz to climb.

That's why a return bout against Faber makes sense. Both men are in a current state of limbo, and it's the type of high-profile fight people could get behind. Their feud goes back to their time in WEC, and rescheduling their trilogy fight would serve to pump some solid lifeblood into a division that certainly needs as much as it can get.

Donald Cerrone vs. Jim Miller

There are some fights that need the "hard push" to sell, but a matchup between Donald Cerrone and Jim Miller wouldn't be one of them. Both men bring the ruckus every time they step into the cage, and their respective places in the lightweight picture has set up a potential clash between these two gritty scrappers.

While "Cowboy" hasn't quite kicked up enough dust to warrant a title shot, he's certainly built some buzz around his name and some solid momentum in the lightweight ranks.

The Albuquerque transplant suffered a setback against Rafael dos Anjos back in August 2013, but he has since rattled off three consecutive victories, all coming by way of highlight-reel-worthy finishes. Those performances have Cerrone knocking at the door of the contender's tier at 155 pounds, but he's still one solid win away from being seriously considered for a shot at the strap.

Enter Jim Miller.

The New Jersey native has been a staple in the elite-level of the lightweight division for years, and he has his eyes on getting his own crack at the title. While the AMA-trained fighter has suffered several setbacks over the past three years, he's still strung together wins on a consistent basis and remained relevant in an increasingly competitive division.

That said, the 30-year-old has found his groove as of late, as he's gone 3-0, 1 NC over his last four showings, which have included back-to-back first-round submission finishes over tough competition.

With making the bout between Cerrone and Miller, the UFC would cover two bases with one shot. First and foremost, there is no way a fight between these two animals would not be entertaining, and second, the bout would serve as an eliminator of sorts, as the winner would stay in the hunt for a title shot and the loser would be reshuffled back into the stacked lightweight deck.

Fighting without TRT 'not a huge thing' for Dan Henderson

Image

It's the fact that athletic commissions decided to come down solely on the controversial treatment -- as opposed to the overall drug problem -- that initially bothered "Hendo."

"You know, it's not a huge thing, but it's just I was taking advice from my doctors to be healthier and I felt better using the supplemental TRT they gave me. But, it is what it is. I can't change the rules. Unfortunately it went down this way instead of conquering the whole problem of all the drug problems, but yeah, I think that they're going to start trying to clean it up and have more random drug testing as well what I hear."

Dan Henderson isn't too upset that testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) has been banned from most major athletic commissions across the world. This, despite the fact that the 43-year mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran had been on the controversial treatment during the latter part of his career. But, as he gears up to face the much younger Daniel Cormier at UFC 173 on May 24, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nevada -- the first state to ban TRT -- for a shot at the the Light Heavyweight title, "Hendo" declared on "The MMA Hour" (via MMA Fighting) that competing without TRT isn't that big of a deal. What bothered him most about the ban was the fact that athletic commissions seemed to focus more on TRT as opposed to tackling the overall performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) problem in combat sports. But, in an ongoing battle, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) officials, as well as athletic commission across the globe, are starting to do more to clean up the sport. Something that brings a smile to "Hendo's" face .. and Georges St-Pierre's, too. And even though Henderson lost his last fight in which he competed without TRT (Rashad Evans at UFC 161), he doesn't think fighting without it again will play a big factor in his bout against "DC." Anyone (dis) agree?
