The UFC’s June event in New Zealand, UFC Fight Night 43, has its second bout.
Featherweights Hatsu Hioki (27-7-2 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and Charles Oliveira (17-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) have agreed to meet at the event. Tatame first reported the booking.
UFC Fight Night 43 takes place June 28 at Vector Arena in Auckland and is expected to stream on UFC Fight Pass. The show, which features a Nate Marquardt vs. James Te Huna middleweight headliner, takes place the same day as UFC Fight Night 44 in San Antonio.
Hioki vs. Oliveira will likely take a prominent spot on the card, which marks the organization’s New Zealand debut.
Hioki recently halted a three-fight losing streak and moved his UFC record back to .500 with a unanimous-decision victory over Ivan Menjivar at the TUF China Finale. The former Shooto and Sengoku champion got off to a good start in the promotion with wins over George Roop and Bart Palaszewski, but after facing a tough stretch of proven vets – Ricardo Lamas, Clay Guida and Darren Elkins – the 30-year-old Japanese fighter suffered three consecutive decision losses.
Oliveira, meanwhile, also looks for his second straight win. In February, the 24-year-old Brazilian scored a submission victory over Andy Ogle (which earned” “Performance of the Night” honors), which followed a knockout loss to Cub Swanson and a decision defeat to former champ Frankie Edgar. Despite some inconsistency, the former lightweight has racked up six fight-night bonuses in 10 UFC bouts.
