Marcus Brimage likely out for the rest of 2013, plans move to bantamweight upon UFC return
TUF 14's Marcus Brimage started out 3-0 in his UFC career, including upset wins over Jimy Hettes and Maximo Blanco. He looked to play the spoiler role in Sweden this past April against Conor McGregor but instead was knocked out in just under 70 seconds. Unfortunately for Brimage (8-2), this looks to be his last fight of the year. Brimage's manager, Lex McMahon, spoke to MMA Junkie yesterday detailing Marcus' achilles injury as well as his plan to drop to 135 lbs next year:
"Marcus has started his rehab and is working with a team of doctors, therapists, coaches and nutritionists to make certain that he returns to the octagon as soon as possible and in the best shape possible," McMahon told MMAjunkie.com. "Current estimates are for a nine-month recovery. Upon his return, Marcus will fight as a bantamweight."
Standing just 5'4", Brimage actually competed at lightweight pre-TUF and even scored a TKO win over former UFC fighter Kyle Bradley. He moved to featherweight to compete on TUF, where he lost to Bryan Caraway in the quarterfinals. Now he'll enter a new chapter in his fighting career as a bantamweight, where perhaps he is best suited given his size.
