In his official UFC debut, The Ultimate Fighter 18 vet Chris Beal sent Patrick Williams crashing to the floor with a flying knee in the second round to open up UFC 172. He couldn’t have asked for a better way to debut than that.
As part of Team Rousey on TUF 18, Beal was heavily hyped as an early favorite to win the entire competition and for good reason. He’s an undefeated prospect with obvious athletic ability and potential.
An exhibition loss to Chris Holdsworth on TUF aside, Beal is still undefeated officially and is someone who could make a lot of noise in the bantamweight division down the road.
A good test for Beal in his next fight would be Canadian dynamo Mitch Gagnon.
In order for a fighter to truly develop, you have to put them in situations that force them to evolve and adapt. Beal is an excellent striker, but his ground game needs work.
A fight against a strong ground fighter like Gagnon will give Beal an opportunity to fill that hole in his game.
