The UFC is about to launch the new Super Heavyweight class for competitors weighing above 265 lb (120 kg), according to UFC president Dana White.
White said on FOXSports.com’s “The Fighter & The Kid” podcast that the UFC has begun “working on” debuting a 300-pound men division. White has previously spoken about bringing in 300-pound men, but has been non-committal yet about a same weight division for the ladies.
As White has said many times, as the UFC continues its global expansion, starting bigger and bigger weight classes is crucial.
“We’re actually working on bringing in members of the American Sumo Wrestling Federation, which I said would never happen for a long time,” White told hosts Brendan Schaub and Bryan Callen.
“We are also thinking of special events where all weight classes could fight against each other, so a 125 pound guy could be fighting a 325 pound monster, that would be epic,” White replied.
