A heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Stefan Struve is set for UFC on Fox 13 on Dec. 13.
The promotion announced the pairing on Wednesday night. UFC on Fox 13 takes place at the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix and also includes a lightweight clash between Jamie Varner and Drew Dober. The evening’s main draw airs on Fox.
Overeem is 2-3 in the UFC since coming to the Las Vegas-based promotion in 2011. The 34-year-old Dutchman last appeared at UFC Fight Night “Jacare vs. Mousasi 2,” where he suffered a first-round technical knockout loss to Ben Rothwell. Overeem owns victories over Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir in the Octagon.
Struve was scheduled to fight for the first time in more than a year at UFC 175 after being diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve and enlarged heart in August 2013. However, a near-fainting spell backstage prior to his bout with Matt Mitrione resulted in the cancellation of that matchup. Struve last competed at UFC on Fuel TV 8 in March 2013, losing to Mark Hunt via third-round TKO.
