Despite losing three of his four most recent mixed martial arts (MMA) matches inside the Octagon, and garnering an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) "bust" label along the way, Alistair Overeem will get one more chance to prove his worth.

Company president Dana White tonight confirmed on "UFC Tonight" that "Reem" is not on his cut list after losing to Ben Rothwell via first round technical knockout this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 50.

His words:

"He is still one of the top 10 ranked heavyweights in the world. We’ll give him another fight."

Overeem is actually ranked No. 10, according to the latest "official" update, sliding three positions after his latest setback.

Of course, the other two losses during this difficult stretch were to Travis Browne and Antonio Silva, who are ranked No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

Certainly no pushovers.

However, Overeem entered the promotion with high hopes. And initially he delivered the goods. stopping former division champion Brock Lesnar with a gut shot to his surgically-repaired abdomen and ultimately forcing his untimely retirement.

Since that time, however, the former Strikeforce and K-1 kickboxing champion has underwhelmed. Perhaps more alarming, he has been stopped in rather violent fashion on three separate occasions within the span of one year.

Overeem, 34, insists that he is still in great shape and simply made a critical mistake. In fact, he insists that he is already ready for the next challenge, but at this rate, he wasn't signed to scrap with scrubs. Rothwell was supposed to be a winnable fight. Far more winnable than, say, a future match against fellow Pride FC veteran Josh Barnett, who is also coming off a loss and appears to make the most sense.

But, there's really only one way to find out ... hopefully.
