Andrei Arlovski regrets harsh comments made about teammate Alistair Overeem

Andrei Arlovski had some heated words for training partner Alistair Overeem last month in an interview with a Russian website. He regrets them now.

"I was kind of emotional," Arlovski told FOX Sports. "I shouldn’t have said anything.

Arlovski told sports.ru about an incident that happened in August when the two heavyweights were sparring. Arlovski said Overeem hit him with a knee that was too hard at Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA in Albuquerque, N.M., and he went to the hospital to see if he had broken any ribs.

"It was so unexpected and so unpleasant that at first I even wanted to take revenge on him, at least hit him with [my] elbow," Arlovski said (translated by Bloody Elbow). "But my boxing coach, Andrei Ivchuk, turned around and reassured me. 'Do not be like the people who allow themselves to such dirty tricks,' he said. 'No need to stoop to their level.'"

Arlovski said he initially thought he might have to pull out of his main event fight against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva at UFC Fight Night on Fight Pass on Saturday in Brasilia, Brazil. UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was also injured while training with Overeem and had to withdraw from his UFC 178 main event against Daniel Cormier.

"Now I know that Overeem injured Jon Jones simply because he injures everyone with whom [he] trains," Arlovski told the website.

After the remarks got out, Arlovski said he had a discussion with coach Greg Jackson. He and Overeem have now buried the hatchet. Overeem posted a photo of him with his arm around Arlovski's neck on Instagram three weeks ago.

"Sometimes amazing how media twist and turns things," Overeem wrote. "For ratings unfortunately I suppose. But rest assured, me and AA go hard inside the gym! To better each other."

Arlovski said he has never had any personal issues with Overeem since the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion has been training at Jackson's, beginning in June. He was just emotional after getting hurt and spouted off about it.

"He's very nice, very respectful," Arlovski said. "I think he's a good guy."
