So the Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt aka Apogee Ensemble 2 aka AE2 touts a 1.1 Round Trip (RT) Latency of 1.1 milliseconds* …
*using Logic Pro X…
So what about with Pro Tools, Cubase, and other DAWs?
The AE2 seems interesting to me because it but only touts the low latency, but as an upgrade to what I have, seems like Ensembles are a pretty decent middle of the road, tried and true interfaces before delving into the hi-end hair splitting arena of pro audio.
The thing is, I'm a PC guy... To use an Ensemble, I would have to go MAC... And it seems that to use the Ensemble 2 to its fullest, I'd also have to go Logic Pro X, when I'm currently a Cubase user but was considering Pro Tools (PT) just due to the fact that some plugins I want to use are PT only.
To me, this makes the Ensemble 2 out of reach… Actually, even the Ensemble 1 was out of reach, because before, I could not considering going MAC due to costs etc.
At any rate, does anyone have any idea what the latency deal with the Ensemble 2 is with any DAW other than Logic Pro X? ..and can anyone shed slighty technical light on why the ensemble "works so well" with Logic Pro X vs. Other DAWs?
Also, I noticed that "input monitoring" has 0.6ms latency.. Is that because the AE2 doesn't have "true direct input monitoring" and has to root via the Maestro software?
I am considering other interfaces / converter boxes, but the ultra low latency of the Ensemble 2 does seem alluring!
Arigato gozaimas!
