I spent all day analysing songs, some that i find stupidly loud (which i love), others that are quieter to check the difference, and I was quite amazed that some of the songs that I find quieter, actually peak higher.
e.g. I thought Rage Against the Machine "I'm Housin" would be damn near the 0db, at least during the chorus, but it actually peaks at -3.5/-4
then I put Florence and the Machine's You've got the Love and it peaks at -0.3 :amaze:
Then I put M.I.A.'s Double Bubble Trouble, which I even thought it was loud beyond what's legal, and again, it floats around the -4 mark.
Sade's Soldier of Love sounds loud to me, peaks at -5 confoosed
Is this down to arrangement and the perception it gives you?

Can anyone explain how quieter songs sound louder?
