Firewire Audio Interfaces - options for upgrade?

Hi,

I currently use an old Focusrite Saffire Pro26 I/O with Behringer ADA8000 connected via ADAT for a total of 16 channels. It's a hybrid setup where all synths go into the Focusrite and all drums into the Behringer. It's then pre-mixed and goes back out in realtime to my mixing desk for external FX and hardware mixing. I then record then master outs into the Focusrite when I've completed the track/mixdown.

This is a total of 3 passes through the A/D-D/A converters and I was wondering if I'd see a a noticable improvement in sound if I upgraded my Focusrite interface (and the Behringer one at a later date?

For what it's worth, I've got a decent monitoring environment with 2 sets of studio monitors and acoustic treatment.

If so, what are my options at the moment? It must be firewire and I don't mind using older technology... I'd be looking for something around £500-700 second-hand and I don't need pres, just line inputs/outputs.

The UAD stuff seems a little out of my price bracket so is there anything other than RME?

If only I had a Mac, second-hand Apogee Ensembles seem to be in this price bracket, but I'm stuck with the PC for the forseeable future.

I've also looked at something like a Lucid 88192 to replace the Behringer in future.

Cheers,

Binny
