Like an Apogee Quartet, but not an Apogee Quartet.

so, I am doing WAY more mixing in my apt. than actual tracking since I found a great (and affordable) room to track here in chicago. I am really wanting to venture away from plugins for "character". Simple subtractive/shelving eq, some compression here and there, but I find myself always reaching for super processor intensive "saturation" plugs , and I am just way more into magnets than 1's and 0's, so I figured I would try to incorporate that into my workflow in logic as much as possible.

Which brings me to my question. I have an older Duet (usb) and it is getting the job done in regards to the stuff I do in my apt. However, the day is rapidly approaching where I need more than just 2 outs to do what I want to do. 8 would be ideal, but 4 is totally doable (could at least process kick, snare, and ov's at the same time). The quartet looks great, but for the price I could easily grab an ensemble and have a lot more change in my pocket. thing is, I don't really need more than 4 inputs (unless I had 8 outputs, then I would want 8 inputs so I could process 8 tracks at a time OTB). I am a guitar player, so naturally I am a luddite who fears change. I am afraid to venture away from Apogee. It would be great to even get something that I could use with my Duet (as an aggregate device). I have been in a cave for a while , just learned that they stopped making the FW ensemble, haha.

So, what is in the same league as the quartet (or ensemble) that perhaps is in a lesser league as far as price goes that some of you slutz that have experience with Apogee are fond of?
