Point of having 2 midi controllers?

I saw a respected bay area producer using an Akai MPK88 and an Akai Max49 stacked together. What is the point of having the 2 midi controllers, is there some type of advantage? I know the mpk88 has fully weighted keys and the max has semi. So my question is what kind of advantage would it give you?
