Good day, slutz.
I am in the market for a workhorse vocal/acoustic GTR microphone… I work mainly in the indie/pop rock genre. Typically I am using either a Great River NV1 or an Avalon 737 as my mic-pre in these applications.
I've got three microphones on my radar:
:::AT 4050:::
:::Lauten Clarion FC-357:::
:::Telefunken CU-29:::
(The Telefunken being at the top of my budget)
I am looking for something smooth and that can take EQ well. Obviously any microphone is going to react differently depending on the source and placement so I guess I'm looking to hear which of these microphones you find to work more often than not. Also, if I am overlooking any serious contenders in this price range please let me know.
My conflict…
This goddamn Slate Virtual Microphone System is looking like it could be released fairly soon, and I have to admit, the concept is extremely appealing given my budget. However, because I mix mostly ITB, the idea of almost everything being "virtual" is making me feel… well… I don't know… uncomfortable maybe??? Do I keep on with a real chain or should I embrace new technology?
Kind of a two part question, with a dash of rant.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
