Flyweight Scott Jorgensen (14-9 MMA, 3-5 UFC) likely has his last chance at turning things around in the UFC octagon.
Jorgensen, who is 1-5 in his past six outings, meets Danny Martinez (16-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 42, officials announced Wednesday night.
UFC Fight Night 42 takes place June 7 at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M. The event’s main card is expected to air live on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though an official announcement has yet to be made.
Martinez also is looking for redemption as he returns to the octagon after a losing debut against Chris Cariaso at UFC 169. The setback snapped a four-fight win streak on the regional circuit.
For Jorgensen, it’s a must-win. The WEC vet has dropped back-to-back bouts since dropping to flyweight, losing via decision to ex-Bellator champ Zach Makovsky at UFC on FOX 9 and via submission to Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night 38.
It’s the most recent setback that likely won Jorgensen another try. He unsuccessfully lobbied the Brazilian MMA Commission (CABMMA) to change the official result to a no-contest, arguing an accidental clash of heads lead to his submission loss.
Prior to dropping to flyweight, Jorgensen went 3-3 as a UFC bantamweight after a failed bid for the WEC title then held by Dominick Cruz.
