Sending songs off to get mastered; what should one typically ask the mastering engineer for?
If the files are 24bit / 44.1. Do you ask for the mastered tracks back in the same format AND a second set at 16bit / 44.1 for CD?
Or is it normal to just ask for the 24bit tracks and self convert / dither to 16bit if / when need be?
If you need instrumental versions / performance versions mastered also, these, of course, have to be sent over and done at the same time. Again, if the instrumental versions were to be released then these would all need UPC / ISRC encoding also.
It seems that - except from just the audio 'stuff', the ME could have a lot to juggle with all the rest that goes with it...
Is it possible to get the files back and encode them with the ISRC / UPC yourself, or must that be done at the mastering stage?
