Looking at an Alesis Ion

So I've been deliberating for a while now, really wanting to get into analog (or virtual analog) synth programming. I looked for a long time at Nord Leads or a Wave, but money is an issue, so I've held off. But the Alesis Ion has caught my eye, and they seem to be regarded as Nord's equal, if not better, at a much lower secondhand price point. I've come accross on on Ebay for only 475 dollars buy it now, or a starting bid of 200 with a reserve. However, the description says that the left and right main outputs are not working, though the aux outputs do work. I was just wondering if this was a common problem, with a well-known solution? If I could get it fixed for 50 bucks or so, it would probably be a good buy. My dad and brother are both electrical engineers, so they might be able to help as well.

Any thoughts?

As a side note, I'm wanting this mainly for progressive rock/metal lead sounds. Any thoughts on whether this is an appropriate instrument for that genre?
