Been a long time since I looked into new mixers and find than now almost all digital ones (and some analog ones too) have direct streaming by either USB or FW.
I'm still using an old Yamy digital mixer with ADAT into RME HDSP. I can't praise the RME drivers enough, and for my needs even at 44.1 recordings sound fine, seldom at 96kHZ if I can take the ADAT input loss.
Recently noticed some odd random behaviors with my mixer and think will be soon time to replace it. So what I want to know is how good are these new mixers used as standalone interfaces. I see everyone from the Presonus to the Yamies, all have this ability and all ASIO I assume, can run my vsti's, etc. Does this mean I can sell my RME card or should I look for a new mixer with ADAT option and keep my card?
The mixer specs rarely detail the audio/PC function giving the impression it was just an afterthought and should not be used as a quality interface. Not much info that I could find on this aspect of specific mixers.
I'm just afraid that switching from RME I'll get into driver mess or poor audio quality with new gear. Of course I can go with the UFX but I want a physical mixer.
